Intermittent sleep problem is the matter of concern to many, it is also research topics that continue around. And it is often seen as a modern phenomenon linked to the patterns of our lives that tend to laziness with technology. However, the new research done by Duke University, North Carolina State of America, revealed that it was cut off sleep is a mechanism for survival, followed old for the purpose of protection from hazards night.
Why do we suffer from sleep cut during the night?
The study focused on the sleep patterns of the tribe in northern Tanzania, known as the tribe "Hadza people", made up of 33 people live on fishing.
During the day, the tribe goes men and women, each different in its own way, to collect tubers, fruits and berries, honey, and hunting animals in the surrounding savannah lake climacteric forests. They meet again in the evening, usually sleeping together outside next to the stove or in small huts made of woven grass and tree branches.
The researchers followed 33 people sleep patterns of the population of the tribe Hadza people, men and women, who wore a small watch-like devices (designed to record their movements during the night) around the wrists for 20 days. And they found that they usually wake up several times during the night; because of sleep disorders; smoke, or Wilson themselves, or take care of their children infant, before Ieoda sleep again.
In this regard, Charlie N., co-author of the research and professor of evolutionary anthropology at the University of Duke American research says: "If you are in the first stage of sleep, it will be more aware of any kind of threat in the surrounding environment."
With more than 220 full hours of observation, there was only 18 minutes in which all persons slept adults simultaneously. On average, more than one-third of the group awake or sleepy little to overcome them, at any time.
It turned out that the older people, they tend to get up early, in comparison with other younger people of respondents.
The authors allege that the disparity in times of sleep among young people and the elderly can be a kind of evolutionary adaptation to which our ancestors kept safe when sleeping in groups containing people at different ages.
N. says: "Many older people go to doctors complain that they wake up early and can not go back to sleep again. But there may not be what their speeches; as some medical things that we have today may not be interpreted as a disorder; but as remnants of the past evolutionary, which was useful in his time. "
